The web development market has no entry barrier — anyone with a laptop can call themselves a developer. Some are excellent; some will take your advance and vanish. This checklist protects your money, whoever you hire (including us).
The 5 rules that protect you
- Demand a written quote. Full scope, exact price, delivery date and what counts as "extra" — on WhatsApp or email, before paying anything. Verbal promises evaporate when disputes start.
- Never pay 100% upfront. The fair standard is 50% advance, 50% after delivery — or milestones for bigger projects.
- Everything in YOUR name. Domain, hosting, Google accounts — registered with your email and phone. Ask directly: "Will the domain be in my name?" A hesitant answer tells you everything.
- Confirm code ownership. After full payment, the code and design should be 100% yours, with no monthly lock-in.
- Judge communication before quality. A developer who's vague before taking your money will be invisible after.
The domain trap (most common scam): cheap developers register YOUR domain under THEIR name — then charge whatever "renewal fee" they want, every year, forever. You either pay or lose your website address. One question prevents it: "domain kiske naam pe hoga?"
Why we published this against our own interest
We built Webnixs around these exact rules — written quotes, 50-50 payments, full ownership, daily updates. Whether you choose us or anyone else, never accept less than this. An informed customer is bad news only for dishonest developers.
